What was the recipe that you were cooking close to the beginning of this video? Eggs and rice??
I really do love all of your videos. They motivate me like nothing else and help me actually getting things done. Thanks to you I actually enjoy cleaning and decluttering. Last week I cleared out my closet and it felt SO good afterwards. β€π Today I cleaned the kitchen. I had wine glasses permanently sitting on the table because they didn’t fit in the cabinet. So I cleaned out our mugs because why would 2 people need 8 mugs? My bf wanted to keep them all. I cleaned out expired stuff because why would we use them now if we haven’t in the last year? My bf wanted to keep the stuff that is still enjoyable even past the date written on the package. I don’t want to waste food either. We have 6 pots, we use 4 of them all the time so I wanted to get rid of the other two. My man said to keep them. I currently load the dish washer every single day and we know there will be times where we both work. He is afraid we won’t do the dishes everyday and thinks it’s good to have clean back up. π± I generally agree with him. Writing down my thoughs help me to process my feelings. I am glad I cleaned the cabinet surfaces today. I am happy we still cleared out so much stuff like plastic cups and cereal.
Wow. I loved how minimal your kitchen is and your basement shelves and emergency stock is super organized. Loved it! ππΌππΌππΌππΌ
I have an extra large kitchen and I thought I needed to fill up the drawers and cupboards. When Dawn suggested keeping them 50% full, it was an aha moment. I thought I was so organized with racks for the lids of my food storage containers but find it twice as easy to store the lids on the containers themselves. So many good tips!
love love love your hair!! Looks so pretty!
Iβve started decluttering and am curious. You said your season of life for cooking is in survival mode. I am an empty nester living alone and Iβm struggling to find simple meals to cook. That rice concoction looked good. Maybe you have some simple recipes you could share? I hate cooking but I really hate wasting money more. I love all your awesome ideas.
If you just keep extra food in the basement, it will expire and you have to throw it out, versus keeping it in rotation. Can you comment? Thank you!
The "company bin" is changing my life, lol. TY!
If you have a ton of food storage containers than I guarantee you have leftovers that you are just throwing out. Just don’t store it in the first place. Cook what you need to eat, and possibly to have enough left for lunch the next day, if you are like my husband and really like leftovers. And as far as the gadgets and appliances…how many decades did our ancestors manage to make specialty foods and full meals with just the basics. We don’t need that crap. Don’t fall for the marketing!!! Good vid!
My husband (the cook and the tidier one of us two) was very averse, at first, to try out your reduction of pots, pans, silverware etc. Now, however, we don’t use any of the things we put into the basement for time will tell and he seems to be fine, even happy with that. Just after I decluttered, we took in a Ukrainian refugee student girl and her kitty-cat for what became a year and three months into our two-room apartment, and even then we didn’t have to re-introduce any of these things into the kitchen. Thank you, Dawn β€β€β€!!
Starting ππΌon the videos Iβve watched!!
I’m to the point where I’m ready to go down to pasta bowls for all my meal needs. All of the little bread plates, lunch plates, dessert plates are usually grabbed to avoid washing the main dish anyway lol. Decorative canisters too. I go straight to the pantry for my dry goods and the portion of flour just hides in the cute canisters not being used.
Four people, six dishes, three meals a day… doesn’t seem to add up, unless you’re doing dishes all day long. Just sayin’ I also read something about germs or something growing in the containers when you store them with the lids on, so we’re not supposed to do that. Yeah, I do it too.
What do you do with items and typically live on the counter like paper towel dispenser, knife block, spoon rest, toaster, etc?
So many helpful tips!!!! Thanks!
Iβm currently doing another declutter, as Iβm slowly getting rid of more and more. This round, Iβm working through our bedroom first, itβs nearly done. One cupboard draw and the blanket box to go. Then the second room is the kitchen. It needs a massive go over. Iβve just been slowly getting rid of more and more stuff as I find what works for us.
Hi ,im absolutely ,loving ur chanel ,
Only watched a few vids so far ,but im hooked ,u now have a new follower ,
Recently donated most if the cuos and glasses we had in storage since tornado took out part of our home last yr. We have lived w minimum items the past 8 months, realizing we didn’t need a lot of things we put in storage:)
Great tips π
We have one spatula! No joke, and it is really great. My mother in law owns 13 spatulas. I was trying to help her set up her kitchen after she moved but I gave up. She is a hoarder and loves to live in chaos. At least that is my perception. She is in her 80’s and when she dies my husband and I will be throwing out or donating so much crap!
I feel like I’m a pioneer minimalist (in my mid 60’s now). I was very poor in my 20’s and 30’s and this limited the amount of things I could own. So when most people were having families and collecting stuff, I was worried if I was going to be able to eat. Let alone own a pizza cutter. π
This lifestyle of owning less has been with me for a long time. I actually feel blessed to have the things I have now and not decades of accumulated crap!
I recently started declutter and organization. I couldn’t believe how much stuff I had to part with. Car loads and car loads to donation. Anyway, I am seeing how right you are. I can pull together our spaces in no time with it decluttered and organized. I am now going to be going back through for maintenance declutter and putting your principles to work to see what I still don’t use.
This has to be one of my favorite videos fm you! Love your channel and info!!
You have really helped me with my efforts towards minimal/less overwhelming leaving. Thank you for being practical, real, and relatable
Iβve taken Dawns advice and got glass storage bowls. It means I can see whatβs in every one in the fridge. All at eye level. Nothing gets wasted or missed now. Itβs made a massive difference. π
My husband collects cups π©.
I’m taking photo.s for when I feel dicourageed so I can see it’s getting a smaller onion π.
I have given myself through the end of November to reorganize and declutter my kitchen/dining/laundry areas. Already, what a difference. It feels good to just get the clutter out of my life.
What do you do if you have guests over? Where do you put extra cups glasses fors etc
Thanks
Excellent information!! Simply freeing

Thank you so much for ALL of your support, I’m so grateful!!! – Dawn
So impressed! I’m a single guy and my kitchen drawers need decluttering. The pots/pans drawer is a mess. Sure appreciate the clean lines of your kitchen drawers :).
Is there a video where you share organizing your freezer? I saw a glimpse of it in a background shot but can’t find a video. please help!
I worked on my kitchen yesterday and I have a couple of glass bowls that I have cooked with, but one is cracked and one has no lid. I want to get rid of them but I don’t know that they can be recycled and am not sure if I should just throw them away?
For pots and pans I get away with a cast iron skillet, a soup pot, and a stock pot. For bakeware I get away with a bread pan, a caserole/cake pan (9×11), and a large sheet pan. I have 2 smaller sheet pans from the dollar store that I dont "need" anymore, but are also useful at times. I also have a muffin pan, and it rarely gets used because I started putting that kind of thing in a 9×11 pan and make squares instead.
Mmhmmm! I have 1 icecream scooper I use there is another one that has something stuck to the inside part…. & 2 more on the side of the drawer…. I got rid of the icky & other 2… then I found 2 more in plastic looks like what it came in… another kitchen spot…. time to say bye to those 2 as well…π π
Dawn recently said in order to keep the the kitchen table from collecting piles, it could be thought of as βhot lava,β meaning you canβt leave any incoming mail, clutter, bags, etc. on the table. I love that thought, it resonates with me.
I just thought of another analogy/trick: Iβm going to think of my breakfast bar as a βhigh tideβ area – itβs okay to use it all day, but every night, if things are left there, the tide will carry them away (like your beach chairs by the ocean.)
You’ve inspired me!!
I bought 2 sets of nesting glass ‘tupperware’, much less than we had before, but we run the dishwasher more often now. We don’t keep the lids on them, that would take too much space. There are extras at any given time, but usually one size runs out more quickly
So helpful. Thank you
Aloha, you are wonderful. Iβm already into Feng Shui yet still your videos are helpful. Thank you so much.
Yey 4 huge bags .still away to go working on like to like.and rubbish.these video are so helpful .Ty !!! Life saver
Every new video from you lately looks more professional than the last
So your children don’t break any dinnerware I guess. If I kept so few glasses and cups I’d be constantly running to shop for replacements. Having more and buying them in thrift stores means that I have peace of mind if anything breaks just trash it. I ocassionaly remove such cups which aren’t comfortable to use. I don’t like dark insides for example I’ve just descovered. I want to see the bottom of my drink. The kids can throw in there anything anytime or insect could go in there etc. I’m love eating and cooking so I have way too much stuff in my kitchen but these things are useful sometimes so I’m not ready to part with them so it’s very hard. I did however removed duplicates and unecessary or unused items but my kitchen is still full so I decided I’d rather store less food than reducing my utensils and cookware. And declutter other easier rooms which aren’t so personal. I have no issues with unused clothing or bedding but I can’t part with my cooking things
I’ve been on a mission to simplify our house the last 2 years and taken so much to the charity shop (I think you call it good will) I had to actually stop putting gift aid on them which is something where the charity shop can get an extra 20% on your donated items from the government based on how much tax you’ve paid. I had to ask my husband how much tax he pays and stop gift aiding them because he doesn’t pay that much and neither do I and I’ve used both π I’ve just watched this as I’m going to sort out our kitchen today. I do need more containers than some people as I batch cook a lot, as a way of having good food when my fibromyalgia is bad but I’m sure a lot of other stuff can go. My daughter asked yesterday how come our house doesn’t get messy like it used to and I explained its because I’ve got rid of an awful lot of stuff.
That Blendtec is so gone!
Thatβs good you keep emergency food though. Smart thinking! I need to have less grocery inventory my cabinets and fridge is packed and itβs hard to find stuff.
uuthake apni me daal de
I love that your Kitchenaid fits in a cupboard! I would totally take a power tool to a cupboard and fix that. Curse of living in the family home, it’s as bad as a rental. Also I have no idea how you manage with only one ‘flipper’!
