Super clear instructions. Can you use buttermilk instead of vinegar and water?

If someone watching this has anxiety over making pie crust I don’t think this video is going to do much to help them πŸ˜‚

I always use lemon juice, not vinegar, but I may try that next time! Also a few frozen butter cubes to ensure it doesn’t get too warm…nice tip. My family loves my pie dough but I like seeing some new tips because perfect crust is appreciated by all!

No recipe tells you if you should bake before filling

  5. @drearoach on February 10, 2025 at 6:56 pm

Thankyou! Whoever coined the phrase " easy as pie" is a liar. Thankyou for sharing that even yourself as an experienced baker needed practice! I just made my first pie ever…I had not seen your video…i had to throw the first attempt away it was like a brick…..attempt 2 was ok but looking forward to trying your tips next time!

While I know it sounds horrible, I’ve been making my dough in a food processor for years, and I allow it to come together in the processor. No kneading necessary. I simply add the first batch of cold butter, pulse a few times, add the 2nd batch, pulse for a few times. With the ice water ready to go, I set the processor to on and slowly pour the water into the feed tube with the little whole at the bottom. It comes together in seconds. Turn out the dough, quickly form into a rough disk, wrap in plastic… Done. Super flaky every time. 300g of flour to 2 sticks of butter. Pinch of salt.

I put just 2 teaspoons of salt and it was way too salty, it ruined my whole pie😒

Thanks for the video. What size food processor are you using? πŸ’™

you use the vinegar because it destroys the Gluten, Gluten is the enemy. If you didn’t use the vinegar you would not be able to do it the way you do because kneading is always a bad idea. I don’t use butter I use crisco and I never put it in a machine and I never let it rest.

  31. @ETEYVF on February 10, 2025 at 7:27 pm

Pie dough, any dough and meringue. I would take hands on classes to learn these. Chili relanos Mexican and Chinese sauses. And if really fancy, how to make hands on cheese and smoked cheese. If you’re a good cook there’s your career. Make student learner teams at a community college.

Thank you very much, this is a beautiful pie dough recipe and demonstration! I for one really appreciate all your instructions, demonstration and hands on!!! Awesome!! 😊😊

  45. @curtislambert8752 on February 10, 2025 at 7:47 pm

Your over working the pie dough ! You Never kneed pie dough ! You only mix by gently ! And your dough is not moist enough ! And after you mix the ingredients you allow it time to incorporate the moisture evenly though out the entire dough 30min minimum this also prevents gluten from forming. And you can substitute lemon juice for vinegar which is better tasting.

  46. @sheilalong8721 on February 10, 2025 at 7:48 pm

Can you put it in the fridge overnight in plastic wrap?

  48. @Kashiruka012 on February 10, 2025 at 7:50 pm

I just made this pie dough recipe, and it came out delicious!!
I noticed some comments were complaining about how salty the dough was. The recipe said to use Kosher salt, which I didn’t have, so I only used a teaspoon of table salt.
And it came out perfect!! This recipe will be my go to from now on!😊
