What a pain…I throw my Kitchen Buck knives in the dishwasher and use a Buck sharpening tool to keep ’em fresh…simple.

  2. @Soapeerandomness on February 10, 2025 at 7:04 pm

Agree with most of this. But for the love of all things sacred, stop using bamboo. It is litterally one of the worst things you can use as a cutting surface for your knives

  3. @itsmederek1 on February 10, 2025 at 7:05 pm

Bamboo is terrible for knives, it has a super high silica content so its like having grains of sand embedded in soft wood. Nobody who knows anything will recommend bamboo lol

  6. @MrEric0822 on February 10, 2025 at 7:07 pm

This sharpening technique makes no sense. Love his cooking videos, but watch a knife sharpener to learn how to properly sharpen.

Frank. you are the best. I have been a butcher for 45 years. Your knowledge on this is great. I have not seen a better teacher on this subject. I really like the part about the sudsy water . I remember many times i foiund a knife at the bottom of sink. Very dangerous i shudder just thinking about what could happen when you reach in. Even today i go in very carefully and search for a knife. Thanks very much. One note on the stone. My teacher told me to make sure to keep it clean , he used a cleaning poweder like comet. What do you think about that?. Don Ross

  13. @ghidfg on February 10, 2025 at 7:11 pm

I really doubt a dishwasher gets hot enough to ruin a knifes temper

  14. @rfishrfish4242 on February 10, 2025 at 7:12 pm

How about just sharpening the knife after every use a little instead of the 20 minutes a month that’s what I do best way to keep your nice shirt. I’m not the kind of guy that schedules 20 minutes a month to do my knives. It’s never gone wrong for me to sharpen before you use every time a little And I mean a little works the best for me

  16. @farhaanahv1 on February 10, 2025 at 7:14 pm

Thank you for sharing the information about knives. It is greatly appreciated.

  17. @sfvalldeperas3 on February 10, 2025 at 7:16 pm

Make sure you test the sharpness of your knife the correct way! Follow exactly as he did: run your finger NOT ALONG THE LENGTH, but across the edge. Do it the wrong way and you’ll hurt yourself!

  23. @codedsky on February 10, 2025 at 7:29 pm

Dishwashers don’t go over 75°c, knives don’t lose their temper in them

Unless there an experiment showing how raising the temp of a blade to 200F decreases it’s hardness, I don’t believe it.

  31. @NilesStewart on February 10, 2025 at 7:37 pm

Always great knowledge for a beginner who is starting to cook at 62…. Thank you…

  32. @fab-infotech-solutions on February 10, 2025 at 7:39 pm

You can sharpen a knife using another knife.

  33. @oneperson5760 on February 10, 2025 at 7:42 pm

My mother in law NEVER sharpened her knives, she says it ruins them. I went to make a veggie tray at her house, and it was horrible, like i was using a butter knife. I almost cut myself several times. I was shocked an older, experienced cook would keep dull knives.

  34. @Cabezon_305 on February 10, 2025 at 7:43 pm

    The plate it is!

  35. @johnlong7504 on February 10, 2025 at 7:43 pm

Thanks for a little ‘fresh up’ for me, take care and stay safe too.

  36. @jimmyniland9721 on February 10, 2025 at 7:44 pm

Please could you tell me if the knife is carbon steel or stainless steel; and is the ‘water stone’ the same as a carborundum stone ?
    Thank you.

  37. @scottrussell4537 on February 10, 2025 at 7:45 pm

The honing rod doesn’t do anything if you sharpen it correctly

  38. @tjairicciardi9747 on February 10, 2025 at 7:45 pm

AWESOME Video !! I learned more about knives in 10 minutes than i had my entire life.

  39. @Russel.Idrive on February 10, 2025 at 7:45 pm

Best way to sharpen a knife is 400 grid diamond stone and a leather strop with 6 micron diamond stropping paste

  40. @overcash6270 on February 10, 2025 at 7:46 pm

There’s a lot, a *lot* of inaccurate information in this

  41. @user-wp8mk3yg4o on February 10, 2025 at 7:47 pm

    you’re very expert at sharpening

  42. @kevinsmith5318 on February 10, 2025 at 7:47 pm

Because it was not mentioned in the video I searched through the comments but to no avail!
What I want to know is the ANGLE in degrees that knives should be held at when using the whetstone.

  43. @PotatoMC1 on February 10, 2025 at 7:48 pm

"Idk what that does.. just sounds to me like it’s dulling the knife."
made me laugh more than it should

  44. @auralfixatedasmr8647 on February 10, 2025 at 7:49 pm

Finally a decent instructional video on mow to do a proper job…thanks Chef….:)

  45. @SpikedCow8372 on February 10, 2025 at 7:52 pm

How can I shine my knife up the blade and then wooden handle

  46. @Wolffen51 on February 10, 2025 at 7:54 pm

I use a manual sharpener all the time on my knives and after doing so, I wipe my knives with a damp cloth…it works for me anyways…

  47. @jubalcalif9100 on February 10, 2025 at 7:58 pm

Wonderful video! Thanks for uploading! I have always thought of knife sharpening as being fun. Never a dull moment!

  48. @georgelloydgonzalez on February 10, 2025 at 7:58 pm

Bruh, the manual sharpener is all I can afford, and it’s just a 2/5??

  49. @theevilteacher on February 10, 2025 at 7:59 pm

The frank-o-meter reminded me of Futurama, somehow.
