The best knife sharpener is the friends we made along the way ❤❤❤❤❤

  2. @olesrensen5020 on February 10, 2025 at 6:59 pm

That was very useful, thank you

    Just use a steel.
    You don’t need a sharpener.
My large knife is 35 years old, looks exactly the same as the day I bought it.
It always has a sharp edge.
Just use the steel before using your knives.

    UPDATE:
At 3:24 I talk about the change in edge angle the further out from a fixed-angle sharpener your edge goes. This is a MYTH.
My buddy Alex from @OUTDOORS55 did a video showing why. I linked it below, as well as in the card when I perpetuate a falsehood. You should check out his video to learn more!

Many good systems out there nowadays. I find Work Sharp brand effective and pretty easy to use. Real knife snobs are often the worst people to get advice from as they are really set in their opinions and don’t like any sharper that’s easy to use.

  7. @wildfire365 on February 10, 2025 at 7:05 pm

Does your sharpener you like most work on carbon or any other steel like tool steal. I know stainless is easy to sharpen but what about those

  8. @Mr850man on February 10, 2025 at 7:05 pm

I bought the spyderco tri-angle sharpener, so I am gonna say that the spyderco is the best bang for your buck and the best solution for everybody in every situation. If you use a more expensive or more time consuming method you are a snob, if you use a cheaper or less time consuming method you don’t like knives

  9. @n.speezly1467 on February 10, 2025 at 7:08 pm

I’ve got a Buck Mini Crock v sharpener that’s great for people like me who don’t take the time to learn a whetstone. I’ve also recently found a JA Henckels pull thru kitchen knife sharpener that works great for larger blades

  10. @rossauce12 on February 10, 2025 at 7:08 pm

For all the new sharpeneners. Dont start with ur better knives start with some cheap folders and kitchen knives. You can also use a permanant marker and blacken the edgde so u can see where ur cutting, acetone takes any leftover marker off. Also, recomend getting a multi sided strop or make ur own and get the diff color coarse compounds for each side if u wanna mirror edge. But easiest wat is spyderco or they wave this other one not in the video where its on springs and u just pull the knife through a few times and it gets a decent edge… harder the metal the more u gotta do

  11. @chuckgillett663 on February 10, 2025 at 7:09 pm

The worksharp guided field sharpener got copied by Benchmade or something because it looks the same. And I love it. Works great on my Leatherman and microtecs

  12. @SharonC4444 on February 10, 2025 at 7:13 pm

Thank you for not saying everyone who doesn’t sharpen exactly like you I’d an idiot. What ever works for you, works. Except for politics. 😮 Just kidding but too easy to pass by.

  13. @lannylancaster62 on February 10, 2025 at 7:14 pm

I’ve used a variety of techniques. The Work Sharp Ken Onion belt grinder is my current method. I’m a pragmatist, so I prefer a quick, serviceable edge with some durability. I shave with a double edge razor, not a knife.

  14. @trystanjames2687 on February 10, 2025 at 7:14 pm

Hey, great video! Thanks for letting me know it’s not whet stone/diamond plate or nothing!

How would the field go with an 8" chef’s knife? Are there bigger similar options?

  15. @RedSinter on February 10, 2025 at 7:17 pm

96 or better…on the Scale that cuts the wire.

  18. @aidand5941 on February 10, 2025 at 7:19 pm

I have more knife sharpeners and sharpening systems than I will ever allow myself to add up the costs. I own work sharp electric sharpeners, Lansky deluxe and Gatco systems, ceramic and carbon wheel pull through sharpeners and I own wet stones from 250, 400, 600, 800 and 1200. And I own a Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpening system with the AM ultra fine ceramic and diamond sharpening stones.

I absolutely insist on a hair popping scary scary sharp knife, talking crazy scary sharp. No other way to sharpen a knife as sharp as I demand comes close to the Spyderco Tri-Angle sharpening system with the AM stones. I can get my 440HC SST, 440 SST, 420 SST, 1095HC, A2 tool steel, D2 tool steel, Carbon V steel knives all insanely face shaving sharp and what I love most of all about the Spyderco Tri-Angle sharpener is it is literally idiot proof. If you fallow the directions and can not get a scary sharp knife you shouldn’t own a knife.

For the record my Blackjack knives made from A2 tool steel are hands down the sharpest knives I ever seen or handled that also keep and edge longest.

Buy once cry once. Spend the $$$ on a Spyderco Tri-Angle sharpening system with the AM stones and you will never need another knife sharpener ever again.

  22. @allisonclements5259 on February 10, 2025 at 7:20 pm

I shearpin my knifes a lot and my wet stones were away fast

  23. @ms.annthrope415 on February 10, 2025 at 7:21 pm

I have that Work Sharp belt sharper and it works just fine. I’ve sharpened field knives, Tops survival knives, Tops kuki knives, and even hedge trimming shears. Getting a sharp edge on a 3/16" thick blade is not easy, but a field knife does not need to shave arm hairs. It will be used to chop, hack, split fire wood, and sundry rough use and a super fine edge will just chip, nick, and dull quickly.

  24. @FongBot on February 10, 2025 at 7:22 pm

This guy gets me… is it sharp enough for me to cut something? Sick.

  25. @SaraParker-m5d on February 10, 2025 at 7:24 pm

Accusharp knife sharpeners is my go to.

  26. @EpicStays on February 10, 2025 at 7:25 pm

For the rolling sharpeners, if the blade is a smaller knife, can’t you just put it up higher using the magnet??

  27. @mtbrdude on February 10, 2025 at 7:25 pm

I started with a Lansky, tried some whetstones, and finally settled on the Work Sharp guided bench top one that rocks back and forth as you sharpen. It’s my favourite, but I am intrigued by the electric belt ones….

  28. @tonnynijholt7090 on February 10, 2025 at 7:25 pm

    Haha like your style

  29. @ZiGGi03 on February 10, 2025 at 7:26 pm

A strop good 6 micron diamond compound a ceramic rod and diamond bonded stones is my preferred method to keep my knives sharp

  30. @Trindal on February 10, 2025 at 7:26 pm

Can I get the name and brand of the hatchet that’s horizontal on the top of the pegboard and the one in the center please??I really want to find a hatchet head like the top one to make as my outdoors walking cane. The other would be done in a similar design only the handle would be a bit thicker and longer. I would use the smaller one to gather small limbs or saplings. The bigger one would be for helping me clear brush. I can’t do much but I would use its long length to takes swings without bending to much. Lower spine injuries and a spinal fusion kept me in constant pain and limited mobility. Is it even possible to find them scratch and dent or second hand?

  31. @swdw973 on February 10, 2025 at 7:26 pm

I have a Lansky. On longer blades I limit the arc to =/- 15 degrees and then reclamp the blade. Takes longer, but still not as long as using a whetstone. The geometry change is minimal and I can rotate the blade in the clamp as I get near the tip. Has worked well so far w/o creating a geometry change. This technique can be used on other fixed angle sharpeners.

  32. @BryonLee on February 10, 2025 at 7:28 pm

People have been sharpening knives for thousands of years. If one can’t figure it out that’s their f***en problem.

  33. @liftplus on February 10, 2025 at 7:29 pm

they call me edge pro, but i don’t own a sharp knife

  34. @colddeadhand7414 on February 10, 2025 at 7:31 pm

I’ve never been able to get the angle right on a wet stone. I had purchased one of the angle sharpeners from Amazon and it was like the heavens opened up. For pocket knives, it is easy to set up and get a working edge on them.

  35. @zbk343 on February 10, 2025 at 7:31 pm

    Wetstone..wetstone..and wetstone

  36. @russellhunter8460 on February 10, 2025 at 7:33 pm

    $20 double sided diamond plate
    $7 ceremic rod
    $5 strop
Maybe some compond if you wish

Can get anything from pocket knife to a axe sharpe to what i need it for.

    Obsidian blade to the eye?
    No thanks.

  39. @rubo1964 on February 10, 2025 at 7:35 pm

I made my own fix pivot knife sharpener and works great. After you mentioned it takes more material on either edges I went and looked at my knives and wasn’t the case.Perhaps becouse I stroke up and down and slowly move on edge instead of side to side?

  40. @CarsonBritton on February 10, 2025 at 7:38 pm

by far the best video ive scene, spent the last 2 days trying to sharpen old timer buck knife on whetstones and was about to quit thank you for this

    Thanx!

  44. @clintk4691 on February 10, 2025 at 7:45 pm

I use that field sharpener the most and have abused it on an axe before. Still works great. Also have the spyderco tri angle for when I really want to get my knives sharp or to work on the kitchen knives. Both great products.

  45. @aspiringmodernistchef on February 10, 2025 at 7:49 pm

Yes, thank you, finally. I have been wondering why no one mentioned that glaringly stupidly obvious elephant in the room where all these fixed pivot sharpening systems suffer from. That was the first thing that immediately came to my mind when I saw any of these systems. Surely everyone would have realized the problem, right? The distance from the pivot would affect the angle, and as your video showed, it could be as high as a 1.5 degrees angle difference. Holy molly, if the reason anyone is buying such a system is for being precise because clearly, they want to eliminate as much variables as possible, then how buying such a system without realizing such a glaringly obvious issue is beyond me. I watched so much videos about such systems and NO ONE mentioned this problem, so much so that I started to doubt myself if there could be a very slight possibility that I was wrong. Jeez, I should have more confidence in myself.

  46. @ultamusic on February 10, 2025 at 7:52 pm

I was trying to watch video and the camera kept switching from you talking directly to the camera, to you talking away from the camera. I don’t get what this "technique" is trying to do. Are you trying to show the viewer as if this is a big production filmed with multiple cameras? The viewer knows there is the person being filmed, and the person filming. Unless at least a third person is added that is shown, then that means your talking to thin air from the viewers point of view. NOT a cool video filming technique, but a distracting one.

You need to look at the proper camera. It’s really creepy watching you talk when your essentially staring out to space.
